UNESCO Chair for the Sustainable Management of Conservation Areas (MCA)

We are so proud. Our founder and senior research fellow Michael Jungmeier is UNESCO Chair holder for the ‚Sustainable Management of Conservation Areas‘ (MCA) at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences. The UNESCO Chair is to contribute to ‚Nature conservation in the 21st century‘ in research and teaching.
The international master „Management of Conservation Areas“ starting in 2021 will be the first study programme of the Chair addressing the dire need of professionals in the management of conservation areas.
The master programme was jointly developed by the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences and E.C.O. Institute of Ecology.
‚I am very proud of this award for the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences‘, says Michael Jungmeier. ‚The master programme ‚Management of Conservation Areas‘ is lead by renowned international lecturers, leading scientists and experienced practitioners. In this study programme executives of nature and national parks and biosphere reserves as well as world heritage sites and geo parks gain specialist and methodogical knowledge for their challenging everyday work.
I am very happy to be part of the UNESCO network with this programme and to have created a professional education for nature conservation in the 21st centure on a global scale.‘

The UNESCO Chair was established in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Ministry of Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology, the MaB-Commitee of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and numerous national and international partners. The application was made via the Austrian UNESCO Commission.
