Year 1996

A long-term monitoring concept was created for the national parks of Berchtesgaden (D), Ecrins (F), Hohe Tauern (A) and the Swiss National Park (CH) in the area of vegetation and waterbodies. As an allusion to the hundred-year history of monitoring the glaciers in Hohe Tauern, long-term observation is to continue for 100 years here too. The concept was created in close cooperation with the administrative bodies of the protected areas and the scientific establishments of the countries involved. The entire project was to consist of the following work packages: project management and overall management, technical standards (harmonisation, administration of metadata, implementation, synthesis), remote sensing, site revisitation, monitoring of vegetation, monitoring of waterbodies, technical data integration, management orientated data integration, PR.
