The Wienerwald biosphere park comprises about 105,000 hectares consisting of development, conservation and core areas. With the designation of 5,400 hectares as core zones, the foundations were laid for the restoration of natural forests which have become rare. Such a large area also needs the right management. Therefore, it is E.C.O.’s task to develop, together with the management of the biosphere park, a coherent protected area concept which considers both the needs of nature and the surrounding areas. A special online tool has been developed for the management of the core zones which administers information and documents the process of measure implementation.
