UNESCO Recognition for Shkodër/Skadar Lake
Supporting the nomination process in Albania and Montenegro
Shkodër Lake in Albania and the Skadar Lake Watershed in Montenegro have been designated as UNESCO Biosphere Reserves under the Man and the Biosphere Programme. The designation recognises the outstanding ecological and cultural value of this transboundary lake landscape and provides an important foundation for continued cooperation between the two countries.
We provided technical support throughout the nomination process and contributed to the preparation of the nomination dossiers for both Albania and Montenegro. The designation marks an important milestone for biodiversity conservation, sustainable regional development and cross-border cooperation in the wider Shkodër/Skadar Lake region.
