Monitoring in ice and snow

Effects of climate change in the Hohe Tauern National Park

Back in 2002, E.C.O. was commissioned by the Hohe Tauern National Park in Carinthia to set up 23 vegetation monitoring areas on the Kleiner Burgstall at the foot of the Großglockner.

The aim is to investigate how the habitats on this exposed peak, which remained unglaciated during the last major glacial advances in 1850, are changing as a result of climate change.

In July 2024, another round of monitoring took place together with the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences - a botanical and scenic experience!
