Salon of Sound Opened
by Christina Pichler-Koban
“Symphonies of nature” – in close cooperation with architects, graphic designers, acoustics engineers, artists and designers, E.C.O. staged the “Klangschlucht Millstatt”. The project was created within the framework of the “Kärnten Wasser.Reich” provincial exhibition and was presented to the public on 12th July.
The gorge is presented to the visitors as a musical instrument created by nature, whose sound is made by the power of water. Natural resonating areas reinforce and vary its sounds. Acoustic furniture, “Millstatt’s furniture of sound”, which was specially developed for the Millstatt gorge, allows visitors a pleasant stay in the changing sceneries of sound. As a meeting point and venue, the “salon of sound” was established in the centre of the gorge. At the end of summer, E.C.O. extended invitations to a “champagne reception in the salon of sound”. Numerous colleagues, partners and friends accepted the invitation and were accompanied by a big crowd of children. Sound installations, “ear chairs” and the “dying piano” were, however, not only attractions for the children. At the end of a short hiking tour, the mixed crowd of guests was awaited by refreshments with regional specialities.
