As part of the construction of the Koralmbahn, ÖBB implemented the excavated soil landfill on Lavanttal Boden. E.C.O. provided ecological expertise for the proper storage of the material (excavation of Koralmbahn tunnel and Granitztal tunnel chain) and subsequent recultivation as part of the officially appointed construction supervision mandate. The tasks included regular visits to the construction site to check that the implementation was compliant with the official order and the corresponding documentation for the authorities. Ecological aspects were also taken into account, such as the appropriate handling of amphibians on the construction site. Furthermore, the proper recultivation after the filling was controlled and documented. Advice was given on the handling and control of emerging invasive species. As a result, it was possible to achieve woody vegetation consisting of rows of fruit trees, oaks, hornbeams and lime trees as well as a shrub and herbal vegetation and a sucessfull recultivation. Problematic plants such as Japanese knotweed, indian knotweed and ragweed were not able to establish themselves over large areas.
