Extension of the World Heritage Beech Forests 2019/20 – Nomination Dossier
The World Heritage Site European Beech Forests stretches across several European countries and consists of almost 80 component parts. It tells the dispersal story of the beech after the last ice age, since it spread northwards from the southern refugial areas. Switzerland has agreed to be the bearer for the submission of a 3rd extension of the serial World Heritage Site "Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe". The Swiss Federal Office for the Environment entrusted E.C.O. with the coordination of the 10 participating states (Bosnia-Herzegovina, France, Italy, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, Poland, Switzerland, Serbia, Slovakia, Czech Republic) in the process of pre-selection of the sites, their zoning as well as the preparation of the submission documents for UNESCO.
