The Kafa Biosphere Reserve in southern Ethiopia was founded in 2010. The region is known above all as the home of coffee. A project by the German Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) aims amongst other things to support the development of eco-tourism in the region so as to guarantee the sustainable use of natural resources and create additional sources of income for the population. The focus of the project was on analysing the tourism infrastructure and the potential for tourism in the region. On the basis of this, E.C.O. developed five different eco-tourism packages and a business and management plan for the long-term development of eco-tourism in the region.
