The Glantal valley was one of the largest swampy areas in Carinthia; today only residual areas are left. In 1990, plough-land was taken out of use in the area of the Metschach estate. The long-term project is to analyse the ecological potential of these areas. For this purpose, long-term observation areas were created. Meanwhile, the statistical series has become the longest vegetation monitoring in Carinthia.
