The idea of “High Conservation Value Forests” was created for the first time at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. In the meantime, this term has gained acceptance to identify forest stands that correspond to certain criteria. This could, for example, be areas with a rare ecosystem or areas enclosing the only water source of the surroundings. In cooperation with ÖBf Consulting, E.C.O. has developed and adapted a tool which facilitates the identification of such areas worthy of protection. It included several workshops as well as some field tests. Now the tool is at the disposal of forestry in Bosnia and Herzegovina
