Subject: Together with science, administration and regional actors E.C.O. worked out a research concept for the Donau-Auen National Park in an intense process of discussion. The concept was based on the symbiotic interplay of national park and science. In detail, commitments for the following areas were set and bindingly established in the management plan: aim and structure of the research concept, terms of the research concept, importance of research, tasks and aims of research, content and subject of research, organisation and general conditions of research. Within the scope of national park research, the targeted permanent observation was rated particularly important. An own concept was dedicated to this topic which aimed at the implementation of a hierarchical monitoring system.
