The project objective was to develop governance and conservation indicators as a building block for an ecotourism standard in protected areas in the Mediterranean region. Besides the development of the indicators, we were entrusted with the implementation of two test runs in 9 areas, the implementation of trainings, the preparation of a guideline for the application and an analysis of the governance and policy structures in the areas.

Together with the results of the international project partners, who analysed the ecological and social footprint of tourism packages, the results will be summarised in a high-quality ecotourism standard. At the same time, all pilot areas received recommendations for improving the sustainability of their tourism products.
