Biotope mapping provides valuable information on the geography of landscapes and regions with natural or semi-natural habitats and communities. They are an essential foundation for preventive nature conservation efforts and form the basis for land use planning and management in general and for zoning and sectoral planning in particular. In the context of a project in Kufstein (Tyrol) the district’s 15-year old biotope mapping is currently undergoing revision. The survey is being undertaken in accordance with the new stipulations of the Tyrolean state government on a scale of 1:4,000. Special attention is being paid to the recording of wetland habitats such as bogs, waterfront woodland areas and wet meadows.
