Thematic Trails are walking and hiking routes which follow a particular theme. They therefore offer the visitor a combination of exercise, experience and information. Bearing these criteria in mind, we made an attempt to draw a comprehensive picture of the thematic trails in Carinthia. The goal of this project was to optimise the design and implementation of the thematic trails, and to improve maintenance and supervision. As an accompaniment to the inventory and certification of the thematic trails, we also produced a guidebook to be used as a basis for planning and creating thematic trails. The guidebook appeared in May 2003 and continues to be in demand.
