The aim of the project was to shed light on the closely knit relationship between society and conservation. To do this, we investigated events connected with conservation which had corresponding social resonance in four major protected areas: Wienerwald, Donauauen, Dobratsch and Hohe Tauern. In order to be able to represent the multifaceted events concisely, we generated mind maps – thematically structured “maps of conservation events” (Map Wienerwald, Map Donauauen, Map Dobratsch, Map Hohe Tauern). By means of this technique, which was used here for the first time in conservation documentation, the way in which conservation is embedded in the social and historical context can be understood at a glance. Results (reports and maps) are only available in German.
