Biosphere Reserve Lungau-Nockberge

The region of Lungau and Nockberge National Park plan to establish a joint biosphere reserve that will be the biggest Austrian biosphere reserve and the first one in Austria spanning two federal provinces. The biosphere reserve distinction will represent a major opportunity for the sustainable, economic and ecological development of the Lungau region and the Nockberge National Park that lacks official recognition of IUCN. The biosphere reserve is expected to be officially recognised by the international MAB Committee in Paris. E.C.O. is supporting the applicants.
