Article 11 of the Habitats Directive: This directive requires monitoring of the conservation status for the habitat types and species listed in the annexes of the directive. The results of this monitoring are to be transmitted to the European Commission in accordance with Article 17 of the Habitats Directive every six years. In preparation for the fulfilment of the monitoring obligation, the mapping of FFH habitat type 9530 "Sub-Mediterranean pine forests with endemic black pines" was carried out in the Alpine region. The habitat type is confined to three isolated locations in Carinthia, namely the Southern slopes of the Dobratsch massif, the Loibltal and the Trögern and Potok gorge. In addition to delimiting the individual stands, the total census includes the survey of predefined monitoring plots in order to determine the state of conservation of the black pine populations.
